Carbon Black

Carbon black is the most widely used reinforcing filler in rubber compounding, and for good reason; it’s hard to replace the combination of tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and modulus it brings to a compound. It’s the backbone reinforcement in tires, mechanical rubber goods, hoses, belts, and virtually any rubber part that has to survive real-world wear.

Conductive Carbon Black

For compounders working in ESD mats, conductive seals, or other applications where the compound needs to manage static or carry a charge, ARP also supplies specialty conductive-grade carbon black — a high-structure, small-particle grade engineered to form a continuous conductive network through the polymer matrix rather than simply reinforcing it.

Phenolic Resins

Phenolic resins do double duty in rubber compounding. They can raise hardness and modulus in the cured part, and they can improve building tack while the compound is still uncured and being assembled into a finished article. That tack matters more than it sounds: multi-ply constructions like tires, belts, and hoses depend on uncured layers sticking together well enough to survive handling and molding before cure locks everything in place.

For compounders working with multi-ply or high-modulus constructions, phenolic resins are often the difference between a compound that builds cleanly and one that requires extra handling steps or produces higher scrap rates.

High Styrene Resin (HSR)

High styrene resin (HSR) is a reinforcing resin used to increase hardness and stiffness in a rubber compound without the processing tradeoffs that come with pushing carbon black loading higher. Because HSR is a resin rather than an elastomer, it lets compounders dial in modulus and hardness independently of the base polymer system; a useful lever when a spec calls for stiffness but the compound still needs to process well on existing equipment.

HSR shows up across mechanical rubber goods, footwear, and molded parts where a firmer hand or higher modulus is part of the spec.
